Context
Trading of tokenized stocks is growing in overseas markets, according to Bitwise data, while a number of large U.S. companies have opted out of having their shares tokenized on the OKXICE venue under the SEC's temporary exemption framework.
The debate over tokenization includes questions about whether token holders should receive the same economic and shareholder rights, including voting rights, as holders of traditional shares. Issue came into focus in September amid a public dispute between the CEOs of Robinhood and AMC over Robinhood's stock-token model.
OKXICE's Andrew Cuomo said he expected many companies to wait and see. Analyst Owen Lau said some companies may eventually embrace tokenization.
